Zero, One or Two
Lynne Golob Gelfman & Jessica Martin
Tile Blush is proud to present Zero, One or Two, a two person show of local Miami artists Lynne Golob Gelfman and Jessica Martin. The exhibition will highlight early paintings from Gelfman’s ongoing thru series, originating in the early 1970’s, alongside new sculptural tables by Martin.
The exhibition’s title Zero, One or Two references a process-driven practice built upon ternary logic, in which one cannot assume the law of the excluded middle. For Gelfman, this is evidenced within the grid formation, in the directionality of dividing lines and the resultant triangular forms, as well as her unique penchant for exposing the verso of her canvas – at times going back in to the new front. Martin’s functional sculptures are the result of initial investigations into three dimensional form defined entirely within a two dimensional digital vernacular of zero’s and ones. Her Planar series, shaped from weathered stone remnants, are inspired by the interlocking joinery of Kiyosi Seike.
Zero, One or Two will be on view at the gallery from April 6 through June 9, 2018. There will be an opening reception on Friday, April 6 from 6 to 9pm.
