Network of Escape
Curated by Joseriberto Perez
Participating Artists: Cassandra Davis, Dave Kudzma, Melissa Leandro, Joseriberto Perez, John Tennison, Omar Velazquez
Tile Blush is pleased to announce their current exhibition Network of Escape, curated by Joseriberto Perez.
Network of Escape will be on view August 25 through October 7, 2018. With an opening reception on Thursday, September 13th, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
This spirited survey, installed across the galleries’ space, includes six artists between Miami and Chicago working in a wide array of styles who together prove the vitality and dialogue of contemporary painting. Network of Escape consists of textile induced paintings and graphic installations, that heave the under- standing of aesthetic value within the cultural product of painting. Contemporary painting is installation, performance, and conceptual and digital work; each artist in the exhibition engages their alternative practice with painting traditions.
Reflecting a singular approach that characterizes our cultural moment at the beginning of this new millennium for painting, the curatorial vision for this exhibition in itself opposes uniformity. Perez intro- duces a bridge between two urban cities of different complexities and dilemmas within the elegance of painting and narrative of science, politics, esoteric networks, specific cultural focuses and realities linked between histories and contemporary problematics.
You can posit over...[Was Painting ever in crisis – was it over critiqued and forced into an antiquated form in times where representation is ubiquitous? And has painting finally survived and possibly found a new stance post-Internet condition, in which newness in painting is obsolete.]
The selected works included in the exhibition range from painting, assemblage, textile, and individual canvases to mid-scale installations.
